After successfully completing the first phase of the Accountable Cyprus Financial Literacy Project, funded by the Northern Cyprus Banks Association and implemented by KMC Consulting, preparations for the second phase have begun.

In the first phase, the project brought together multiple stakeholders, including civil society organizations and universities. 13 different training sessions were conducted, targeting a diverse range of participants, including high school and university students, micro-business owners, women, retirees, and farmers. Additionally, under a protocol signed with the Ministry of Education, financial literacy training was integrated as a pilot program into the accounting and finance curriculum of vocational high schools. As part of this initiative, 21 teachers received trainer training and earned their certifications. Throughout the project, 385 adults obtained financial literacy certificates, and 98 high school students from four different vocational high schools had the opportunity to benefit from financial literacy education.

Given the project's successful completion, a new agreement was signed between the Northern Cyprus Banks Association and KMC Consulting for the second phase, which will be carried out in collaboration with the Ministry of Education. Over the next year, the project will focus on a younger audience—elementary and middle school students. The first phase will introduce financial literacy lessons to 4th and 6th-grade students, and teacher guides are already being developed to extend the program to 5th and 7th grades in the following year. By introducing financial literacy education at an earlier age, the project aims to raise the overall level of financial awareness in society, contributing to socio-economic development.

In its second phase, the Accountable Cyprus Project aims not only to increase the financial literacy of children aged 9-12 but also to reach a broader audience through various competitions and events, fostering greater public awareness. Over the next year, the project will continue to promote financial literacy as an essential and accessible skill for everyone, empowering all members of society to make better financial decisions.
