The Halloumi PDO program under the EUnite project, implemented by GIZ, aims to enhance the EU Halloumi PDO regulations and food safety standards of the dairy sector in Turkish Cypriot community. The program targets improving local producers' production techniques, implementing EU food safety standards, maintaining feed quality, and enhancing conditions in small ruminant farms. Additionally, it seeks to facilitate access to veterinary products used in beekeeping, which have been approved by the European Medicines Agency.
The financial support, totalling 1,300,000 Euros, has been announced for dairy producers and food manufacturers in two different lots. Dairy producers and food manufacturers operating in the dairy products sector can apply for up to 100,000 Euros for improving hygiene conditions in raw milk production and/or compliance with the standards set for food manufacturers in the EU and food manufacturers in other animal-origin food sectors, such as honey, can apply for up to 80,000 Euros. Small ruminant dairy producers are expected to provide proof of having delivered at least 100 litres of milk to SÜTEK within two months of 2024, while food manufacturers must hold a Category 1 or Category 2 document as determined by the veterinary department.
Grant beneficiaries under this program are expected to provide co-financing not exceeding 30% of the project budget. The amount of support received will be clarified according to the grid table specified in the project application form. The application process consists of two stages: the first stage checks applicants' compliance with administrative criteria, and in the second stage, the grant support team's visits and assessments will determine the manufacturers who are eligible to receive the grant. The deadline for the first stage of applications has been announced as August 5th at 15:00.
